Willen Garners Academic All-District Recognition

Ryan Willen has earned Academic All-District II honors for the second straight season.

EASTON, Pa. - Senior forward Ryan Willen (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Notre Dame) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Men's Basketball Team announced on Thursday. It is the second straight season that Willen has earned the distinction.

Willen is the team's leading scorer (14.8 ppg) and rebounder (5.1 rpg) and currently has the Leopards in fourth place in the Patriot League standings after the first run through the conference. Willen is a 1,000-point scorer (currently with 1,333) and has 523 rebounds, making him one of just 13 players in Lafayette history to score a 1,000 points and pull down 500 rebounds in a career.

To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve, be at least in his sophomore year and maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).

A Neuroscience major, Willen carries a 3.43 GPA and boasted of a 3.77 GPA during the fall semester of his senior year.

The Missouri native was a Patriot League All-Rookie selection in his first season and earned All-Patriot League Second-Team honors as a sophomore when he also secured a placed on the All-Patriot League Tournament Team.

Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America for All-District honors, Willen now advances to the national ballot, from which First, Second and Third-Team All-America honorees will be announced on Feb. 23.

The Leopards return to action on Saturday, hosting Navy at 1 p.m.
