Bucknell Pulls Away From Lafayette Men, 71-61
Jan. 21, 2009
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Andrew Brown led Lafayette with 19 points in the Leopards' 71-61 loss at Bucknell on Wednesday night.
The Leopards could not get into a rhythm from either behind the arc or the free throw line, shooting 25 percent from three-point range and 56.3 percent from the charity stripe.
The Bison capitalized off second-chance points, outscoring the Leopards 17-4. G.W. Boon paced Bucknell with 20 points, and he was joined by Patrick Behan and Bryan Cohen, who each chipped in 14.
As Bucknell led 14-13 at 11:55 remaining, the Bison went on a 9-0 run until Jared Mintz's bucket broke a six-minute dry spell for the Leopards.
Lafayette erased an 11-point halftime deficit with a 16-4 run in the second half, spanning roughly five minutes. Though Brown was forced to leave the game with a bloody nose after he was fouled at 17:12, he returned less than three minutes later and hit a three-pointer at 12:48 to bring the game to a single-possession, 41-38.
Darion Benbow's layup tied it at 43 and the teams matched scores until Bucknell put together an 8-1 run.
Lafayette came within one point again after scoring six unanswered points, 55-54, but Behan converted a three-point play at 3:25 remaining to halt Lafayette's attempted comeback.
The Leopards will return home to host archrival Lehigh on Saturday at 1 p.m.
