Pat Doherty, a 2004 Lafayette graduate, is in his ninth season as an assistant coach on the men's basketball staff. Doherty begins his sixth season as Fran O'Hanlon's top assistant and helped lead the Leopards through an unlikely run to the team’s fourth conference championship in 2014-15, winning the Patriot League Tournament as the four seed.

The Leopards won on the road at Bucknell in a tournament game for the first time in program history and defeated sixth-seeded American in the championship game for the league title. The Maroon and White moved on to the NCAA Tournament, eventually falling to top-seeded Villanova to end a historic season.

Doherty helped lead Lafayette back to the Patriot League Tournament Championship game and a second-place finish in the 2012-13 campaign, his first as top assistant for the program. Doherty was also part of Lafayette's back-to-back appearances in the Patriot League Tournament Final in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Doherty came to Lafayette following a season at Williams College. While there, he helped lead the Ephs to a 17-9 overall record and a 6-3 mark in the NESCAC. Williams advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament in that 2008-09 season. In 2007-08, Doherty served as an assistant coach at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Prior to his time at TCNJ, he was an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Central Bucks East High School in Doylestown, Pa. from 2006-07.

Doherty graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lafayette with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Spanish. He was selected as a Marquis Scholar, the college's highest academic scholarship. Doherty was a walk-on player for Lafayette during the 2000-01 season.

In addition, Doherty has worked with the Hoop Group as a coach and site facilitator and also served as a program director for PeacePlayers International in Northern Ireland. PeacePlayers is a non-profit organization that uses the game of basketball to unite and educate children and their communities in areas of the world that are historically characterized by strife. During his time in Northern Ireland, Doherty was a player/coach for Northstar Basketball Club.

Doherty currently resides in Pipersville, Pa. with his wife, Kristen, and his two children, Maeve and Connor.
