Baseball Names Senior Duo as Captains for 2018

Dec. 21, 2017

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette baseball head coach Joe Kinney announced that seniors Luke Robinson and AJ Kloehn will serve as captains for the 2018 season on Thursday morning.

This marks the second straight year that the duo of Kloehn and Robinson will serve as captains. Their leadership will help guide the Leopards as they look to bounce back from last year’s 8-44 record and build of the momentum that picked up near the end of the season.

Kloehn enters his final season manning home plate for the Maroon and White after playing in 28 games and earning 26 starts as a junior. The Canton, Ohio native belted two home runs and three doubles at the plate last season and finished with a .306 slugging percentage. Kloehn’s defense is a key part of his game, as he threw out five would-be base stealers last season while teaming up with junior John Selsor to manage the pitching staff.

Robinson returns to College Hill for his senior campaign as a staple of the Leopards’ outfield. The St. Louis, Mo. native started 49 games as a junior, all of which were in right field. Robinson mashed a team-high six homers and finished with 44 hits and a .260 batting average. The 6-2 outfielder also earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League team for his strong work in the classroom.

The duo leads a balanced roster, as the Leopards feature 18 juniors and seniors compared to 19 underclassmen.

The Maroon and White get their season underway on Feb. 16 when they head to North Carolina to battle Davidson. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
