Baseball Team Volunteers its Time in Easton Community
Nov. 11, 2008
EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette baseball team recently volunteered its time as part of Make-A-Difference Day sponsored by the Landis Community Outreach Center on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Leopards made trips to the Children's Home of Easton, ProJeCt of Easton and the Salvation Army of Easton. Fifteen players dedicated their mornings repainting the walls and backboards of the gymnasium at the Children's Home, dubbed "The Chilly." The Children's Home provides a safe and nurturing environment for underprivileged or orphaned children from the ages of 11 to 18. They field a basketball team that travels across the East Coast to participate against other Children's Home teams. Five members of the team also repainted numerous rooms at the ProJeCt of Easton, which offers language and literacy services to over 3,500 community residents each year, assisting families from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Thirteen players completed community service at the Salvation Army, applying fresh coats of paint in the Worship Center. The team is in the midst of offseason individual baseball workouts along with weight training and conditioning sessions. The Leopards begin practice on Feb. 1 in preparation for their season-opening game on Feb. 21st at Davidson.
