Fall Baseball Season Comes to a Close With Maroon and White World Series

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette baseball team wrapped up its 2007 fall season with the annual Maroon and White Series on Sept. 29 through Oct 3. The White squad came away with the victory with a 2-1 record in the series.
Leading the way for the White squad were senior righthanders Steve Roberts and Brad Woodfield, sophomore righty Jeremy Atkins and freshman southpaw Joe Verdon. Senior Tom Hayes and sophomore Justin Shepherd paced the offense with senior catcher/DH Tom Ambrosole and freshman Rob Froio contributing key hits in the series.
On the Maroon side of things, junior Ryan Hanna and freshman righthander Zach Fritz had strong outings on the mound. Sophomore Brad Weiss, junior Daniel Bierce and freshman Matt Fenster led the Maroon offense.
The Leopards now move into the offseason portion of the semester where they will concentrate on weight training, conditioning and refining baseball skills. Those efforts will be guided by eighth-year head coach Joe Kinney and 2008 team captains Kevin Reese and Tom Hayes.
The defending Patriot League champions will open the 2008 season at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on Friday, Feb., 22 in Lexington, Va. Patriot League play will commence with a four-game series against Navy on March 29-30 at the Class of 1978 Stadium.
