Academic Honors for Baseball
June 29, 2009
EASTON, Pa. - Eleven baseball players were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced on Monday morning. This marks the second straight year under head coach Joe Kinney that at least 10 players have earned Honor Roll status. The Leopards finished the semester with a team GPA of 3.07. Senior Ryan Hanna led the squad with his 4.0 grade-point average (GPA). Hanna was joined by classmates Daniel Bierce (Economics and Business), Jeff Butler (Mathematics-Economics) and Ian McCutcheon (Government and Law). Matt Fenster (Economics and Business), Zach Fritz (Anthropology and Sociology), Rob Froio (Chemical Engineering), Corey Shea (Biology) and Joseph Verdon (English) represented the sophomore class while Brian Davila (Economics and Business) was the lone freshman. Hanna, an English and Spanish double major, was one of many baseball players who completed externships during the January interim session. Hanna was the lone Leopard who traveled abroad as he spent the month in Guatemala. Seven other student-athletes scattered the country during January to serve their externships in areas ranging from finance to real estate. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 GPA in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters differ at each institution.
