Froio on Fire

LEXINGTON, Va. - Lafayette centerfielder Rob Froio (Midlothian, Ill./St. Laurence) was named the Valley Baseball League's Player of the Week. The Valley Baseball League is a NCAA-sanctioned wood bat league. Froio, who plays for the Rockbridge Rapids, hit for a .519 clip with three doubles, four RBI and six stolen bases last week en route to picking up Player of the Week honors. He currently leads the team with a .431 batting average through 12 games and has four doubles and 10 stolen bases. Froio's .431 average also places him second overall in the Valley Baseball League standings and his 22 hits lead the conference. The Valley League is a wood-sanctioned league. The Chemical Engineering major and Marquis Scholar had a career year for the Leopards in 2009. He hit for a team-high .367 average with nine doubles and 72 hits and led the squad with 45 runs scored. Froio also stole 20 bases, good for second on the team, and had a team-high on-base percentage of .437. He picked up one Patriot League Player of the Week honor as a sophomore and finished sixth in the league standings in batting average. Froio, a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, boasts an overall grade-point average (GPA) of 3.51 and was one of five Engineering majors on the team last spring.
