Baseball Honors Sponsor-A-Player Donors
May 11, 2011
EASTON, Pa. -The Lafayette baseball team honored its Sponsor-A-Player donors last Saturday with a ceremonial first pitch between games of the Leopards' doubleheader with Le Moyne. The event was held in conjunction with a tailgate co-sponsored by the Friends of Lafayette Baseball and the Lehigh Valley chapter of the Lafayette Alumni Association. The Sponsor-A-Player initiative seeks to foster a stronger relationship between student-athletes and the alumni, parents and friends who support the program. All Sponsor-A-Player donors are assigned a current first-year player and will provide mentorship throughout the course of the player's career before welcoming him to the Lafayette baseball alumni family. The four donors in attendance on Saturday were Mr. Matthew Bechta, Mr. Hal Kamine '78, Mr. Peter Ramsey '82 and Mr. Christopher Watts '81 representing himself and his father, Mr. George Watts '65. Each donor threw his ceremonial pitch to the freshman whom he sponsors: Robert Tatum, Ben Meer, Andrew Santomauro and Chris Bennert.
