EASTON, Pa. - Three seniors on the Lafayette baseball team have been honored with postseason recognition from the Patriot League, it was announced Tuesday. Kevin Casey was a First Team All-Patriot League choice, while Andrew Ruck was named to the Second Team as well as the Academic All-Patriot League Team with Michael Massa.
Casey adds the First-Team All-Patriot League honor to his name a year after claiming a Second-Team nod in his junior season. The Leopards' everyday second baseman was penciled in the starting lineup in all but one game in 2013 and was second on the team with a .317 overall batting average and hit at a .333 clip during conference play. Casey also posted a .429 slugging percentage and a .449 on-base percentage, which both ranked in the top-10 among Patriot League student-athletes. He also finished in the top-five in walks (34) and runs scored (35) and led Lafayette in both categories.
A Second-Team outfielder and Academic All-Patriot League Team member, Ruck completed his senior campaign in the top-10 in total bases (74), home runs (3), hits (56), on-base percentage (.403) and batting average (.318). He paced the Leopards in average, total bases, hits and was tied for the team lead in home runs. Ruck, a Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.81 cumulative grade-point average, was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District II First Team and is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection.
Joining Ruck on the Academic squad is Massa, who was Lafayette's number one starter this past season. Massa posted a 3.41 ERA on the season, including a 2.73 ERA in five Patriot League contests, and tossed three complete games, while going 3-6 in 11 appearances. A native of Huntington, N.Y., the left-hander struck out 37 batters in 66.0 innings and his opposition to a .220 batting average. Massa found success in the classroom as well, earning a 3.24 GPA in Economics and was a member of the 2012 Academic Honor Roll.
