Bierce Named to Baseball All-Patriot League Second Team
May 7, 2008
EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette junior shortstop Daniel Bierce (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. The All-League honor is the first of Bierce's career and comes following a season in which he put up career numbers in several categories.
Bierce's .320 batting average this spring is a career-best and good for second on the team. He leads the Leopards with 57 hits, including 11 for extra bases. Those 57 hits are the 12th best single-season mark in team history. In addition, he is second on the team with six doubles while his three home runs are a personal best. He has also stolen 12 bases and walked 12 times.
Bierce has started all 47 of Lafayette's games this season, one of only two players to do so. The Economics and Business major had a strong finish to the season, batting .462 over the last 10 games, including six multi-hit performances and two home runs.
Over the past three seasons, Bierce has started 130 of the 140 games in which he has played and collected 122 career hits. He also has 35 career stolen bases, good for 11th all-time in program history.
The Leopards (25-22) wrap-up the 2008 season with a 3:30 p.m. road game against Rider on Wednesday.
