Lafayette continues its season-opening road trip with a visit to Princess Anne, Md. for a weekend series with Maryland Eastern Shore. The Leopards come into the game 0-7 after two journeys to North Carolina and a midweek tilt with Rider.
Last Time Out
Lafayette carried a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the eight, but a four-run Rider rally gave the Broncs a 5-3 lead. Rider closed the door in the top of the ninth to drop the Leopards to 0-7. Junior Connor Ortolf pitched five strong innings for Lafayette, allowing just one run on three hits and two strikeouts in his first start. The Leopards were led offensively by senior Scott Kelleher with a home run, senior Kevin Casey and freshman Andrew Landolfi each knocked in a run for the Leopards in the loss.
The Hawks are off to a slow start at 1-11, with their only win coming at Winthrop in their opening series. UMES is powered by junior Byron Campbell who leads the Hawks with 15 hits, while hitting four doubles and knocking in three runs. Junior Jeffrey Fleetwood and sophomore Joshua James each have a team-high five RBI.
This weekend’s series will mark the first meetings between the Hawks and the Leopards.

The forecast for this weekend in Princess Anne, Md. is sunny with a high of 56 degrees Saturday and mostly cloudy with high of 55 degrees and a 10 percent chance of rain on Sunday.
Lafayette leadoff man, junior Andrew Santomauro is the leading hitter for the Leopards with seven hits in 25 at bats for a .280 batting average this season. The outfielder leads the team with five runs scored and has been walked five times.
The Leopards will travel to Philadelphia to take on Temple Wednesday at 3 p.m., followed by a trip to Jacksonville next weekend to play three with North Florida.
The Leopards were picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, after going 14-37-1 a season ago. Lafayette senior co-captain Kevin Casey garnered Preseason All-Patriot League honors at second base on the League's inaugural preseason team. Casey hit .330 last season with 17 RBI.
