Leasure Honored As Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week
March 6, 2007 EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette senior outfielder Kevin Leasure (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph's) has been named the Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending March 5. Leasure ripped a two-run home run in the ninth inning of the series opener at Maryland on March 2, keeping the Leopards' comeback hops alive in an eventual 4-2 loss. In the series finale on March 4, Leasure had two hits and two RBI to pace Lafayette to a 7-2 victory. The Maryland native is batting at a .368 clip for the season and leads the team with seven RBI in five games. Leasure cranked out a team-leading 34 RBI in 2006 when he hit four home runs and finished with a .303 batting average. Lafayette freshman Jeremy Atkins (The Woodlands, Texas/John Cooper) was also in the running for Patriot League honors, nominated for Rookie of the Week after earning a victory in his first collegiate outing. Atkins struck out six and did not walk a batter in a 7-2 victory over Maryland (3/4). Lafayette (3-2) will next play on Saturday at Davidson at 2 p.m. The game is the first of a three-game series and will kick off Lafayette's eight-game road swing on the Leopards' Spring Break trip to North Carolina and South Carolina.
