Leeds Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette sophomore Mitch Leeds has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

The righty threw 6.2 scoreless innings in a 1-0 loss at George Washington on Saturday. He allowed five hits with two walks while fanning one in his first start of the season. Only one other Patriot League pitcher has not been charged with an earned run in six or more innings of work this season.

Leeds retired the side in order in the first inning before inducing a double play to finish the second. After holding George Washington scoreless in the third thanks to a strong throw from Alex Nickles in right field to third base for the third out of the inning. The sophomore right-hander worked around a two out-single with a strikeout to end the fourth before tossing scoreless fifth and sixth innings. He allowed two runners to reach and had two outs in the seventh, before handing the ball to reliever Ari Kaufman. Kaufman earned the final out to keep the game scoreless.

The Maroon and White return to the diamond for a three-game set with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. The squads will play a doubleheader in Teaneck, N.J. starting at 1 p.m., before closing the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
