Houck and Kreyer Earn PL Weekly Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Trevor Houck and freshman Brett Kreyer each twirled a gem this past weekend at the Irish Alamo Invitational for the Lafayette baseball team and picked up Patriot League weekly laurels, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Houck was electric on the mound in the season opener against Notre Dame and propelled the Leopards to a 10-2 victory. The senior co-captain shutdown the Fighting Irish, giving up just one hit as he went a career-best eight innings, while fanning a career-high seven batters. He picked up the win and surrendered two earned runs, holding the opposition to a .042 average at the plate.
Kreyer got his first collegiate start against Incarnate Word and got through six scoreless innings, with allowing just one hit. The rookie southpaw worked through the Cardinals’ lineup by pitching to contact and inducing eight ground ball outs.
The Leopards will return to the diamond this weekend when they begin a three-game series with William & Mary, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va.
