EASTON, Pa . - Lafayette senior co-captain Kevin Casey garnered Preseason All-Patriot League honors at second base, the League announced Wednesday. The Leopards’ infielder claimed the recognition after voting by the League’s head coaches and sports information directors placed 12 individuals on the inaugural Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

Casey, a Second Team All-Patriot League choice a season ago, was chosen after his junior campaign in which he hit .330 and posted a .427 on-base percentage. The Cherry Hill, N.J. native was limited to 31 games due to injury in 2012, but managed to hit three home runs, drive in 17 and score 19 on the year. This past summer, Casey played in the prestigious Alaska Baseball League where he was a Second Team All-League player and batted .356.

Coming off last year’s 7-13 conference mark and an appearance in the Patriot League Tournament, the League’s annual preseason poll slotted Lafayette to finish fifth, one spot ahead of Lehigh. Holy Cross and defending League champion Army were tied at the top of the poll, while Navy and Bucknell filled in at third and fourth, respectively.

Lafayette opens its 2013 season on Feb. 23 in Davidson, N.C. with games against Georgetown and Davidson.
