Baseball Inks Top Recruit Santagata
EASTON, Pa.--In a draft day show held during halftime at the Lafayette men's basketball game against Army, Lafayette baseball head coach Joe Kinney announced the addition of Craig Santagata to his recruiting class.
Santagata comes to College Hill from Glen Gardner, N.J. and will look to make an immediate impact on the Leopards' lineup. The 12-year old ballplayer has been battling Schwannoma since 2016. Schwannoma is a tumour of the nerve sheath and attacks the body's soft tissue.
"Once my team and I heard about this opportunity, it was an easy decision to connect with Craig," said Kinney. "We're looking forward to having Craig join us for the season and show us what he can do on the field."
Lafayette partnered with Team IMPACT to help bring Santagata into the fold. Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, Mass. that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,400 children with more than 500 colleges and universities in 47 states, reaching over 35,000 participating student-athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student-athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
