Navy staged a late comeback in the second game of a Patriot League doubleheader and went on to complete the series sweep over the Lafayette baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Max Bishop Stadium.

Steven Cohen and Quentin Bubb paced the Leopards at the top of the order. Both players compiled three hits in the two games, including an extra base hit, and were responsible for three runs and an RBI.

The Leopards (3-31, 1-7 PL) were outhit 21-15 by the Midshipmen (23-12, 6-2 PL) and outscored 16-7 on the afternoon.

Game 1: Navy 7, Lafayette 1 (7 innings)
WP: Kyle Condry (3-1), LP: David Giusti (0-6)

For the second time in the series, the Leopards were first to get on the board. Bubb doubled down the right field line with one out in the first before being driven in on a Dan Leckie RBI single to center.

The Maroon and White were limited to one hit per inning from the second through the fifth, before being held hitless in the final two frames.

Lafayette’s one-run advantage held until the third, when Navy plated a pair of runs. The Midshipmen added five unanswered runs over the course of the next three innings and went on to grab the 7-1 victory.

Game 2: Navy , Lafayette
WP: Sean Kamhoot (2-2), LP: Kyle Johnson (0-3), SV: Jett Meenach (5)

Trailing by two runs, 2-0, entering the fourth, the Leopards came up to hit and got on the board. Leckie was hit by a pitch with one out in the inning and after advancing to second on a wild pitch, stole third. With a run 90 feet away from scoring, Richard Villa came up and shot an infield single to the left side and Leckie came in to score.

In the top of the fifth, the Leopards loaded the bases with no outs once two Lafayette batters were hit by a pitch and Cohen singled. John Selsor then came up and belted an RBI single into left to even the score up at two before Lafayette took the lead on a Leckie bases-loaded walk.

Navy induced a pair of groundouts on back-to-back Lafayette at-bats for the first two outs of the inning, but a run scored on each play and the Leopards’ lead grew to three, 5-2.

After the Midshipmen trimmed the deficit to two with a run in bottom half of the inning, the Leopards came right back and plated a run in the sixth. Luke Robinson hit a leadoff single and after being sacrificed over, scored on a Cohen RBI double to left center.

The Leopards took their three-run lead into the seventh, but for the second straight day, the Midshipmen sparked a comeback. After knotting up the score, Navy added three additional runs to move ahead 9-6 to complete a six-run inning. Lafayette was held to one hit the rest of the way and Navy completed the series sweep.

Lafayette returns to the diamond on Tuesday to host Rutgers for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference tilt at Kamine Stadium.
