STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific outlasted Lafayette on Thursday night, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to hold on for a 4-2 win in non-conference action at Bill Hebert Field.

It was a pitcher's duel throughout the game and especially through the first three innings, as Lafayette starter Matt Revelle and Pacific starter Alex Graham stifled the opponents' offense. The duo combined for 16 strikeouts.

The Leopards broke through first in the top of the second inning. Jeff Rodgers was drilled with a pitch that put a runner aboard for Adam Rosenberg. Rosenberg jacked his second home run of the season over the wall in left centerfield to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead.

Pacific (13-7) tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. An RBI-double by Evan Bishop plated Brandon Gottier who had reached on a one-out single. The next batter Octavio Amezquita cleared the bases and evened the game at 2-2 with triple to right centerfield.

Revelle ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh. The first batter of the inning, Isaiah Lilly, reached on a throwing error by third baseman Frank Cortazar. Revelle retired the next two batters with a strikeout and a foul out on a sacrifice attempt, but then walked the next batter. The base on balls prompted a pitching change for the Leopards. Don Smith came on and gave up a two-run double that gave Pacific a 4-2 lead, a lead that would hold up.

Revelle pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out six and walked one in his first career start. Smith threw one and a third innings and allowed one hit.

Pacific closer John Schmidt battled the Lafayette hitters in the top of the ninth. He gave up a lead-off single to rightfield, but then struck out the next two batters. Rob Fioretti kept the inning going with an infield single to second, but Schmidt struck out Eric Vacca to end the game with runners on first and second.

Graham threw eight innings, and allowed two runs on four hits in the win. He struck out 10 and walked one to improve to 4-0.

Lafayette (3-9) and Pacific will play game two of the three-game series on Friday night with the first pitch coming at 6 p.m. PT.
