PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette opened the 2001 baseball season on a strong note, dominating Maryland-Eastern Shore 19-4 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Princess Anne, Md.

Junior Kevin Swords (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) earned the win in his first start of the season. The righthander went five strong innings while allowing just two hits.

Freshman righthander Paul Fischetti (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) came on in relief, throwing the final two innings for the Leopards.

Offensively, freshman Adam Rosenberg (Ocean Grove, N.J./Neptune) was impressive in his collegiate debut. Rosenberg went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the game. Junior Tye Gonser (The Dalles, Ore./The Dalles) picked up where he left off from the 2001 season. Gonser's lefthanded bat went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. He also scored four runs from the lead-off spot in the lineup.

Lafayette cranked out 19 runs on 10 hits on the afternoon, while allowing Maryland-Eastern Shore four runs on just two hits. Lafayette benefitted from six Maryland-Eastern Shore errors.
