Five Women Earn Patriot League Honor Roll Status

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's cross country team placed five runners on the Patriot League's Fall Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the League this afternoon. Senior captain Hannah Tuson (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Somers) topped the Leopards with a 3.78 fall grade point average.

Junior Lindsay Bryant (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), freshman Kaela Mahon (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and a pair of sophomores in Frances Morro (Stockholm, N.J./Pope John XXII) and Katie Schultes (Woodbury, N.J./West Deptford) joined Tuson representing the Maroon and White.

Bryant enjoyed a strong start to the season as Lafayette's top runner at both the Lafayette-Lehigh Dual and Iona Meet of Champions. The mathematics major completed the fall semester with a 3.40 GPA and earned her third consecutive mention on the honor roll.

Schultes was the top runner in four of the six meets she participated in, while posting a 3.50 GPA. The biology major led the Leopards with a tenth-place outing at the Patriot League Championships before finishing 35th at the NCAA District meet.

Morro and Mahon consistently paced themselves at Lafayette's middle runners, respectively. The two managed third and fourth, respectively, at both the Patriot League Championships and the NCAA District meet. Morro earned a 3.35 in psychology, while Mahon remained undeclared but put up a 3.52 on the semester.

Tuson, the team's lone senior, earned honor roll standing for the third straight year, which included a perfect 4.00 as a sophomore. Tuson's best run of the season came at the Paul Short Invitational, when she placed fifth for the 'Pards.

American's Kiera Carlstrom was named the 2005 Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year after earning a 3.55 GPA. Receiving the honor for the third straight year, the reigning Patriot League Champion finished a career-best sixth at the NCAA National Championship meet.

A total of 495 student-athletes were named to the League's Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 27 with a perfect 4.00. The cross country women added 71 runners to the list. For the fall, the honor roll includes the sports of men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 GPA in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the seven League-sponsored fall championship sports.
