EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette Track & Field and Cross Country teams have hired Joe Anthony Ayala as their new assistant coach.

“We got an outstanding coach,” head coach Julio Piazza said. “To be successful, one needs to have passion. Anthony has the passion and the skills necessary to ensure our student-athletes get the quality they deserve and are accustomed to.”

Before coming to Lafayette, Ayala served as the Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country coach for his alma mater, Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he was responsible for helping with day-to-day activities including establishing and following budgets for travel, recruiting, equipment and scholarships, fundraising, overseeing of volunteer assistant coaches and technical coaching of event groups.

In 2011-12, Ayala assisted in the coaching of 11 NCAA Division II All-Americans, the Mexico National 400-hurdles champion, the NCAA Division II Outdoor Triple Jump champion, the NCAA Division II Indoor 200-meter champion, and two additional NCAA Division II Indoor All-Americans.

In the classroom, Ayala earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Kinesiology from Texas A&M-Kingsville in 2008 and 2012, respectively. He also taught undergraduate activity classes within the Kinesiology department as a Teaching Assistant from 2008-2012.
