Pena Named to Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team

EASTON, Pa. - Sophomore Rachel Pena was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2012 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team this week. Pena is one of 676 Division I athletes to earn All-Academic status.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and meet either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

This past season, Pena earned All-East Honors with a distance of 183' in the hammer throw and set a new personal best in the event. She was also a First Team All-Patriot League selection.

Lafayette’s men’s and women’s teams were each named to the USTFCCCA 2012 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams. Lafayette was one of 85 schools whose track and field teams’ cumulative GPA was a 3.00 or higher. The men’s team averaged a 3.28 GPA, best in the Patriot League, while the women’s team posted a 3.38 cumulative GPA, ranking 28th nationally.
