Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette Men's and Women's Track and Field teams placed 19 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll announced on Wednesday afternoon. The women's track team finished the semester with a 3.27 grade -point average(GPA), placing them sixth among all athletic teams at Lafayette.

Senior Psychology major Kelly Hinkel led all honor role members with a 3.85 GPA for the spring semester. Senior Psychology major Vicky Melroy and sophomore Psychology majors Kerriann Borke and Kelly Clyde were also named to the honor roll. Cassandra Bradley, a senior English major from Coal Township, Pa. finished the spring term with a 3.76 GPA and also completed an externship with NJN Public Television during January 2009. Rounding out the list was freshman Mechanical Engineering major Stephanie Hazlett with a 3.25 term GPA.

The Lafayette men's team also had a successful spring semester. Posting a team GPA of 3.26, the men finished just below the women's team. Freshman EXCEL Scholar and Civil Engineering major Michael Thompson led the pack with a 3.82 GPA while sophomore Mechanical Engineering major Paul Von Hertsenberg finished the semester with a strong 3.74 GPA.

Civil Engineering majors Matthew DeBlander and Ryan Stasiowski also earned honor roll status with 3.68 and 3.46 GPAs, respectively.

 

 

Also named to the list was Marquis Scholar Bradley Williams. The junior from Marriotsville, Md. spent part of 2008-09 academic year abroad in Argentina while achieving a 3.46 GPA.

Seamus McGuire, the only Leopard to compete at the NCAA Championships, also produced in the classroom. The junior Anthropology and Sociology major boasted a 3.32 semester GPA en route to earning All-East accolades and finishing sixth at the NCAA East Regional.

Senior Mechanical Engineering majors Rob Blum and Adam Jones earned 3.35 and 3.44 semester GPAs, respectively. Blum completed an externship during January with the Lynch Exhibits in Burlington, N.J., which specializes in museum installments and full-scale dioramas.

Two juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman completed the list for the men's squad. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 GPA in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
