MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico - Recent grad Rachel Pena '14 won the hammer throw at Puerto Rico's National Championships on Sunday, June 8. Pena's throw of 200' 3" (61.04m) captured the hammer title.

Pena, a Patriot League champion who graduated in May with a degree in English, will compete for Puerto Rico at several championship events this summer.

"I know Rachel was a bit disappointed after her performance at the NCAA Preliminary Round but she bounced back with a nice performance at Puerto Rico's National Championship," said Lafayette track and field head coach Michele Curcio. "She will most likely represent Puerto Rico at future international meets starting with the Caribbean Championships this summer. She had a great career at Lafayette and I believe that she will continue to become an even better hammer thrower on the international level."
