EASTON, Pa. – For the second consecutive year, Dave McGriff’s outdoor track and field season will extend beyond the IC4A Championships as the junior thrower is headed to Lexington, Ky. this weekend to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship.
The Flemington, N.J. native will join a competitive group of 47 other discus throwers from all across the region with the event set to start at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The 12 best finishers will advance to the National Championship Meet held in Eugene, Ore. From June 6-10.
McGriff has dominated the opposition in the discus this season, placing inside the top five in all seven meets he competed in, including five first-place showings.
To qualify for the NCAA Regionals, McGriff put together a record-breaking performance as he shattered the program’s best mark, which he set last season, at the league championships with a throw of 184’ 1/4". That distance is the 22nd longest in the region entering Saturday’s competition.
