Duo Set to Compete at NCAA East Region Prelims

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team has two participants scheduled to compete at the NCAA Championships East Region Preliminary field, announced by the NCAA on Thursday. Jerome Rudolph and Rachel Pena will represent the Leopards in the 100 meter dash and hammer throw, respectively.

The East Region Preliminary Round will be hosted by North Florida May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 12 finishers in each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rudolph, who was recognized as Lafayette's Male Charles L. Albert '08 Award winner at the Lafayette Senior Student-Athlete Award Ceremony, looks to improve upon his 100 meter dash time of 10.39 seconds. The senior set that mark earlier this season at the Moravian College Coach P. Invitational and it was the best time in the Patriot League.

In the hammer throw, Pena has been chosen to compete after earning All-East Honors at the ECAC Championships. The sophomore thrower set a new personal best with her toss of 183' and placed fifth. She also earned First Team All-Patriot League accolades after winning the event at the Patriot League Championships.
