Pena Picks Up Female Field Athlete of the Week

EASTON, Pa. – Junior Rachel Pena of the Lafayette track and field team was named the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week, the League announced Monday.

Pena made it to the championship round at the Penn Relays on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. She finished in fifth place with a throw of 188’ 9”. That mark was a personal best and tops in the Patriot League this season. Additionally, the throw ranks 18th on the NCAA East Regional list.

“To have the opportunity to throw in the championship round of the Penn Relays was a great opportunity for Rachel and I am very happy for her on her fifth-place finish, “ assistant coach Michele Curcio said. “She was given the chance to throw against competitors that she will see at the NCAA Regional Championships, giving her experience competing against some of the best throwers in the nation.”

The weekly honor is the third for Pena so far this season. The Ridgefield Park, N.J. native and her teammates will compete in the Patriot League Championships in Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
