Pena Named Female Field Athlete of the Week

Center Valley, Pa. – Lafayette thrower Rachel Pena has been selected as the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

The Ridgefield Park, N.J. native captured a top finish in the hammer throw at the Rider Invitational over the weekend with a 59.81 meter (196’ 2”) mark, surpassing ECAC qualification standards. Pena sits ninth in the East Region and 20th overall in the event this season. The senior added a second place finish in the shot put with a distance 11.98 meters (39” 3 ¾”).

This is Pena’s first Athlete of the Week award of the outdoor season, and fourth of her career.

Pena and the rest of the Leopards return to action this weekend when they take part in the Greyhound Invitational and the Larry Ellis Invitational.
