EASTON, Pa. - Devin Smith of the Lafayette track and field team was honored with the Patriot League Rookie of the Week award, the League announced Monday.

Smith narrowly missed ECAC qualifying times in three different events in a stellar showing at the Lafayette 7-way meet on Saturday afternoon. She finished first in the 400m dash, crossing the line at 56.83, less than a second off the ECAC mark. That time was also the second-fastest outdoor time in school history.

Additionally, the freshman helped the Leopards finish first in the 4 X 400m relay with a time of 3:54.07 and second in the 4 X 100m relay, clocking in at 48.49.

"The great thing about Devin is that, as a freshman, she has not shown a drop off from the indoor season to the outdoor season," head coach Julio Piazza said. "A lot of first-year students begin to show fatigue from the academic and athletic stresses that they are under from the start of the year. Devin has shown a lot of maturity in balancing her academics and athletics."

Lafayette returns to Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex on Saturday as it hosts the Lehigh Dual meet at 11:30 a.m.
