Leopards Travel to East Stroudsburg for Five-Way Meet on Saturday

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette track & field team travels to East Stroudsburg for the annual Five-Way Meet. Rider University, ESU, Moravian, and throwers from Kutztown will participate in the meet that begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The men's and women's hammer events will take place at Lafayette's Meztgar Fields on Friday at 4 p.m. Freshman sprinter Janica Austin and senior thrower Ashley Harbin were named the Patriot League Track and Field Athletes of the week as well as ECAC Athletes of the week. Austin had a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the Shamrock Invitational on Mar. 21-22, breaking the school record with a time of 14.09 and qualifying for ECACs in the process. Harbin was the second-place finisher (first among collegiate athletes) in the hammer at the invitational, throwing a distance of 194'9". She hit the ECAC and NCAA Regional qualifying marks. Harbin is the school recordholder in the hammer and has competed twice at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Freshman Asia Hollis also had a strong performance at the Shamrock Invitational, where she led a team of four Leopards in the 400-meter dash and broke the school record with a 56.56 finish. Lafayette had one ECAC and one IC4A qualifier in the jumps. Junior Adam Jones leapt a personal-best 48' 6¾" in the triple jump to hit the IC4A mark and finish fifth in the event. Senior Kristen Kalinowski qualified for the ECACs in the high jump for the first time in her career with her jump of 5' 7" that earned her a third-place finish. Saturday's competition will begin with the women's steeplechase on the track. The men's long jump, men's pole vault and women's triple jump in the field events will also start at 10 a.m.
