EASTON, Pa. – With a 177' 2" first-place Hammer Throw at the Tribe Invitational at William & Mary University in Williamsburg, Va. on Saturday, junior Rachel Pena earned her first Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week Award, the League announced Monday.

“It is always nice to be recognized by the League for an outstanding performance,” said assistant coach Michele Curcio. “Rachel has worked extremely hard throughout this year to defend her league Hammer title and take her throwing to the next level. Both Rachel and I hope this is the first step toward a great season.”

An ECAC qualifier, the throw ranks her first in the Patriot League in the event and 18th on the NCAA East Region List. Pena also competed in the shot put on Saturday, finishing in seventh with a throw of 41’ 8”. Her shot put was an outdoor personal best and ranks sixth all-time in Lafayette history.

The Leopards, picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League Outdoor Preseason Poll, will host a 7-way meet on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m., at the Metzgar Fields Complex.
