Leopards Travel to Princeton for New Year's Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Just two days after the Fast Times Before Finals meet at Lehigh, the Lafayette track & field team went on the road again to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the New Year’s Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The meet consisted of teams from Princeton, Bryn Mawr, Coppin State, Delaware State, Georgian Court, Holy Family, Johns Hopkins, Monmouth, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s, Stevens, The College of New Jersey and Towson.
Juniors Elise Buffinton and Rachel Pena, as well as senior Gwen Steckel, each placed in the top five in their respective events with ECAC qualifying marks. Buffinton finished second in the Pole Vault with a leap of 3.60 meters, while Pena took third in the 20lb Weight Throw with a mark of 16.63 meters. Pena also had an impressive showing in the Shot Put, finishing sixth with a throw of 12.53 meters.
Steckel notched the fourth spot, right behind Pena, in the 20 lb Weight Throw with a heave of 16.57 meters. Sophomore Claire Murphy also finished in the top five for the Leopards as she took fifth place in the Pole Vault with an indoor personal best of 3.35 meters.
After a busy weekend, the squad is off until Jan. 12 when they travel to the New York City Armory to compete in the Armory Saturday Night Races event.
