Leopards Put Forth Solid Showing to Open Season

EASTON, Pa. - Sophomore Brittany Powell took first-place honors in the women's triple jump to lead the Lafayette track & field team at the Fast Times Before Finals meet, held at Lehigh on Friday evening. Powell jumped 37' 10" to come away with the top mark.
The Leopards' 4X400m relay team, consisting of senior Megan Matusky, junior Katie White, senior Chelsea Marone and freshman Devin Smith, took second place in their respective race with a time of 4:04.53. Two Lafayette team members placed in the top five in the women's 200m dash as Smith took third with a 26.22 mark, while classmate Erin Keen clocked in at 26.27 for the fourth position.
Freshman Jarrel Bobb posted the 10th best all-time mark in the men's long jump, taking fourth place with a leap of 22' 7 3/4", while sophomore Juannell Riley set a personal best in the men's weight throw with a heave of 47' 7".
Bobb also had a top-five finish in the triple jump, setting his mark at 45' 6 1/2". Five other Leopards finished in the first five spots on the day. Junior Hallie Farber took fourth in the women's 1000m run and Marone secured fourth place with a 1:00.56 time in the women's 400m dash.
Matusky and senior co-captain Nick Hepp had fifth-place finishes in their respective 400m dashes, while sophomore Haley Langton took the fifth spot in the women's 500m dash.
Lafayette is back in action tomorrow as it will participate in the New Year's Invitational in Princeton, N.J. at 11 a.m.
