PRINCETON, N.J. – Members of the Lafayette track and field team competed at the ECAC and IC4A Championships in Princeton this weekend. Senior Rachel Pena continued her impressive season with a second place finish in the hammer throw (62.50 meters, 205’ 1”).
Senior Elise Buffinton took fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 3.77 meters. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Stephanie Benko finished in seventh place with a time of 10:33.79, breaking her own school record. Allyx Hunsberger took ninth in the javelin with a toss of 42.88 meters.
On the men’s side, Chris Castello finished fifth in the decathlon, Castello won the 400 meter dash and finished fourth in long jump and the 1500 meter run. Juannell Riley (174'6") and Mac Maguire (173'1") competed in the hammer throw, finishing in 26th and 28th, respectively.
Four Leopards earned All-East honors, including Pena in the hammer, Benko in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Buffinton in the pole vault and Castello in the decathlon. Pena and Buffinton each earned their third career All-East honors.
Other Leopards competing in the event included, Mike Smitelli and David Robinson in the 100 meter dash finihsing in 11.13 and 11.26, respectively. The men’s 4 x 100m relay team consisting of Smitelli, Robinson, Marcus Vilme and Jarrel Bobb in 41.70, while the women’s 4 x 100m relay team including Erin Keen, Haley Langton, Mara Blanchard and Devin Smith missed the school record by 0.29, finishing in 47.75. The women’s 4 x400m relay team consisting of Langton, Drew Davis, Keen and Smith also came close to breaking the school record with a time of 3:48.81, 0.44 off the record.
