Track and Field Sends Athletes to Penn Relays, Lehigh Games

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Nine Lafayette track and field athletes competed at the Penn Relays last weekend in Philadelphia. The women's 4x400m relay team won its heat, and Tyler Jones advanced to the final of the collegiate men's Eastern shot put division.
Meredith Cohen, Lauren Phelps, Elizabeth Rybas and Kathleen Evangelista combined for a time of 4:01.54 in the 4x400m relay to best East Stroudsburg by 0.67 seconds. Towson and Bloomsburg finished third and fourth in the heat.
Jones placed eighth in the shot, with a toss of 52-2 ½, and Michael DeGregorio threw 47-4 ¼. Jones had a throw of 162-9 in the discus to place 11th in the field.
The Leopards also sent a number of competitors to the Lehigh Games in Bethlehem on Saturday. Kyle Doran placed third in the pole vault, (10-11 ¾), Pamela Glennon was fourth in the shot put (40-2 ¾), and Ashley Harbin was fourth in the hammer (157-6) for Lafayette's top finishes.
Lafayette will host the Patriot League championships this weekend at Fisher Field and the Metzgar Complex. The championship will also be broadcast on tape-delay on CSTV.
