Women Sit in Fifth After Day One at PL Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lafayette Track and Field team wrapped up Day One of the Patriot League Championships on Friday afternoon, held at Navy. The women currently sit in fifth place while the men are in eighth after one day of competition.
The women were led by Elise Buffinton and Rachel Pena, who both on their specialties. Buffinton won the Pole Vault event at 12’ 5 ½” and Pena won the Hammer with a throw of 191’ 6”.
Brittany Powell earned a third place finish in the Long Jump with a personal best of 18’7 ¼”. Allyx Hunsberger also collected a third place finish in the Javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 141’4”.
The foursome of Haley Langton, Grace Watters, Hallie Farber and Kelly Reager came in 7th in the Women’s 4 x 800 relay, running an ECAC qualifying time of 9:16.04.
On the men’s side, Juannell Riley and Mac Maguire came in 7th and 8th in the Hammer with throws of 179’2” and 175’3”.
Kevin Smith, Andrew Morra, Derrick Hargwood and Andrew Warshauer ran a time of 7:48.69 to finish in seventh place in the Men’s 4 x 800m relay.
Also having solid performances were Devin Smith, Dejana Harris and Chris Castello. Smith and Harris qualified for the finals in the 100m (12.50) and 100m Hurdles (15.43) respectively. Castello sits in third place after the first day of the Decathlon with 3,377 points.
The Leopards are back in action tomorrow as they compete in Day Two of the Patriot League Championships.
