Leopard Track and Field Competes in Charlottesville and Lewisburg

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's track and field squads split up last weekend, with the bulk of the throwers traveling to Charlottesville, Va. for the UVA Invitational and the rest of the squad making the trip to Bucknell for the Bison Outdoor Classic. Distance runners Nicholas Birosik (31:05.57) and Taryn Landers (37:32.50) qualified for the IC4A and ECAC Championships, respectively, in the 10,000m at Bucknell. Meghan Baker finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:13.49, and Kathleen Schultes was fifth in the 1500m in 4:51.21. On the men's track, Thomas Blenk was second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.01. Colin McDonough placed second in the second flight of the 1500m, in 3:57.75. The triple jumpers also had productive afternoons. Emily Cholak was third with a distance of 36-2 ¾, and Alison Crowley placed fifth with a personal best of 35-10 ½. Jeffrey Sejour was third in the men's competition after recording a distance of 45-10. Tyler Jones set a personal record in the discus and finished third at the UVA Invitational with a throw of 159-4. He finished seventh in the shot put (48-11 ¾) and 11th in the hammer (151-0). Jonathan Rowe had a season best showing in the hammer, with a distance of 160-9. Steve Malloy made the finals in the javelin and was seventh with a throw of 169-9.
Andrea Cerbie finished seventh in the hammer with a career high of 135-5. Daria Szkwarko also placed seventh, with a height of 10-6 in the pole vault.
