Buffinton Wins Pole Vault at ECACs

Lafayette Photo StoreEASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette track and field team sent four members to Boston, Mass. Saturday to take part in the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Elise Buffinton became Lafayette’s second woman to win an indoor title when she pole vaulted 12’ 11 ½” to set a new school record. The last Leopard to win an indoor ECAC title was Penny Erisman in 1991 when she took the top spot in the weight throw.

Two-time Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week Rachel Pena earned All East Honors in the weight throw for the second consecutive season as she finished third in the event with a 61-foot heave. It is her fourth overall All East honor, she now has two in indoor and two in outdoor.

On the track, Devin Smith ran a season-best 55.94 in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 13th. Haley Langton put on a season-best showing in the 500-meter run with a 1:15.78 finish.

The Maroon and White kick off the outdoor season on March 29 when they play host to a 7-way meet.
