Lafayette Track & Field Competes at IC4A/ECAC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. -The Lafayette Track & Field team traveled to Boston to compete in the ECAC & IC4A Indoor Championships this past weekend. The women finished 22nd out of 52 teams.
Junior Elise Buffinton continued her record-breaking season with a vault of 12' 7.5", good for second place overall in the Pole Vault. The Lewisburg, Pa. native earned All-East Honors for her performances.
Joining Buffinton on the All-East Honors list is junior Rachel Pena. Pena posted a third place finish in the 20lb weight throw with a toss of 61' 3". That distance was a personal best and topped her previous record by three feet. Senior Gwen Steckel posted a 17th place finish in the same event by throwing 51" 11.25".
Rookie Devin Smith broke her school record in the 400m by 1.5 seconds. Smith ran 55.58, which was good for 13th place.
Hepp also ran the 200m, and finished 31st with a time of 22.10. Parker placed 38th in the 800m at 1:58.42. Will Volkmann earned a 27th place finish in the 5000m, running 15:06.48.
Next up for the Leopards is the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 8-9.
