Day One Results

Lewisburg, Pa. – The Lafayette track and field team traveled to Lewisburg, Pa. to compete in the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship. Day one of the three day competition saw the women’s pentathlon and the start of the men’s heptathlon.

Junior Bridgette Meloro served as the Leopards lone representative in the pentathlon. She ran an 11.20 in the first of the five events, the 60 meter hurdle, starting her day with 504 points. In event two, the high jump, Meloro would finish in a four way tie for fourth as she reached a height of 1.49 meters (4’10 ½”), adding 610 points to her ledger. In the throwing portion of the afternoon, she tossed the shot put a distance of 8.10 meters (26’7”). After three events she stood at 1,520 total points.

The fourth event was the long jump, in which Meloro took eighth after flying a distance of 4.25 meters (15’3 ¼ “) giving herself 466 more points. The day rounded out with the 800 meter run, where she finished ninth with a time of 2:35.24. Overall, Meloro finished in 15th with 2,615 points.

Junior Chris Castello was the Maroon and White’s only participant in the heptathlon. He placed second in the 60 meter dash after topping his section with a 7.28, giving him 785 points to start. He took to the air in the second event, the long jump, where his final leap of 6.24 meters (20’ 5 ½”) secured a fifth place finish and 639 more points.

Castello continued his hot start with a third place finish in the shot put after his 11.51 meter (39’3”) heave to bring his total to 2,028 points. To finish off first day action, Castello took the third spot in the high jump and 653 points by clearing the 1.83 meter bar (6’0”). Through four events, he sits in third place with 2,681 points and trails the leader by just 208 points. The heptathlon will be completed tomorrow with the 60 meter hurdle, pole vault, and 1000 meter run.

Saturday’s field events will be the weight throw, long jump, and high jump. The track will see the 60 meter hurdles prelims and semifinals, 60 meter dash prelims and semifinals, 5000 meter run, 200 meter dash prelims and 4 x 800 meter relay.
