Leopards Close PL Chmpionships with 10 Scoring Finishes

– The Lafayette men’s and women’s track and field team competed in the two-day long Patriot League Indoor Championships this weekend, combining for 10 top-eight finishes.

The men finished seventh overall while the women earned a ninth place finish at the meet that included all Patriot League schools.


The 4x800m relay team highlighted the Lafayette women’s team performance, earning a fifth place finish. The team of Amy Hewlett, Caroline Harmon, Alexa Kwapinski and Margaret Schiazza turned in an IC4A qualifying time of 9:10.21.

Crosby Spiess and Kwapinski added individual top-eight finishes for the Leopards, as Spiess finished eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 58.74, and Kwapinski grabbed an eighth place finish in the 1000m run, rounding the track in 2:59.29

The Maroon and White earned a top-eight finish in the 4x400m relay as well, as Hewlett, Charlotte Gacek, Spiess and Sophia Sharpless combined to finish with a time of 4:03.70, which was good for eighth.




The men’s team earned six top-eight finishes at the championships, highlighted by a second place finish from Dave McGriff in the weight throw. The senior hit an IC4A qualifying distance of 18.59m.

Sam Fishbein earned a fourth place finish in the shotput with a personal best throw of 15.43.  Sam Cutrone and Tyler Hubeny earned top-eight finishes in the heptathlon. Cutrone finished with the second highest total score in school history of 4765. Hubeny finished eighth with a total of 4649 points, which is the fourth best total in Lafayette history.

Calvin Schneck kept up the scoring for the Leopards in the 1000m, earning an eighth place finish with a PR of 2:32.66. The Maroon and White earned a fifth place finish in the 4x400m relay as the team of Justin Johnson, Brendan Carroll, Tyler Pressl and Jacob Hubertus finished with a time of 3:25.85.
