Lafayette-Rider Winter Games
Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette College track and field team took to the Armory for the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games Friday in an event in which there was no team scoring. Senior Elise Buffington tied Lafayette's pole vault record when she flew to a height of 3.90 meters (12'9.5").
The women's squad saw success on the oval and in the air. Devin Smith continued her successful rookie campaign by qualifying for ECAC competition when she finished the 400 meter dash in fourth place out of 42 participants crossing the line at 56.24. Haley Langton took eighth place out of 23 runners in the 500 meter run finishing with a time of 1:17.36. In the air, Buffington bested the field reaching a height of 3.90 (12'9.5") meters in the pole fault. Newcomer Mara Blanchard finished fifth in the 21 contestant field reaching a height of 3.45 meters.
On the men's side, David Robinson finished 14th out of 31 sprinters crossing the line at 7.12. Robinson would go on to take 20th in the 200 meter dash crossing the line at 22.65, just .04 behind teammate Michael Smitelli who finished 19th in the 45 runner field at 22.61.
The Maroon and White will be in Patriot League Championship action Feb. 21-23 in Lewisburg, Pa. Buffington, Langton, Rachel Pena, and Smith will travel to Boston on March 8-9 to compete in the ECAC Championships.
