Baker Equals School 800m Record, Wechsler and Jackson also Excel on Track

NEW YORK, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomore Meghan Baker tied the Lafayette record in the 800, and two more men's middle distance runners qualified for the IC4A Championships at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational, held Saturday at The Armory. Baker finished the 800m in 2:15.36 for a fifth-place finish in the meet, and tied the school record set by Anna Sherman in 2001. Alex Wechsler ran the 1000m in 2:29.70 to become an IC4A qualifier, and Richard Jackson posted a time of 1:04.99 to qualify at the 500m distance. Wechsler and Jackson join Brian Vail, who has already posted qualifying times in both events. Vail finished third in the 500 with a time of 1:04.72, and Jackson was fourth. Tyler Jones won the shot put with a toss of 51-8 ½, while Andrew Brown was fifth. Stephen Ekema-Agbaw claimed second in the triple jump with a distance of 45-6 ½, and Jeffrey Silvan was third in the high jump at 5-8 ¾. Vanessa Youngs placed fifth in the 55m and sixth in the 200m for the Leopard sprinters. Taryn Landers was third in the 3000m with a time of 10:17.45. Emily Cholak (triple jump, 35-8) and Daria Szkwarko (pole vault, 10-10) were both third in their respective events. Four Lafayette throwers spent Friday at the Thomson Invitational in Newark, Del. Larissa Bellamy and Ashley Harbin were third and fourth in the women's weight, and Jonathan Rowe and Michael DeGregorio finished fourth and fifth on the men's side.
