Leopards Excel in Final Tune-Up Before PL Championships

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—The Lafayette men’s and women’s track and field teams had an excellent final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships begin next Friday, earning five top-five finishes at the Fast Track National Invite.
On the men’s side, Tyler Pressl earned a top-15 finish in the 500m, rounding the track in 1:57.54. Calvin Schneck joined Pressl in the top-20, finishing in 1:58.32 which placed him five spots back of his teammate.
In the field events, Michael Thorne won the men’s pole vault, reaching a height of 4.70m (15’5”), edging out Joseph Prince of Army. In the high jump, senior Matt Beck finished tied for fifth with his mark of 1.89m (6’ 21/4). Brian Kauffmann earned a top-20 finish in the triple jump, grabbing 19 with a jump of 12.87m (42’ 23/4).
Dave McGriff maintained his stellar performance on Friday, finishing second in the weight throw with an IC4A qualifying throw of 18.08m (59’ 4”). McGriff earned a top-10 finish in the shotput, finishing ninth with a throw of 14.99m (49’ 21/4), while freshman Sam Fishbein finished 16, hitting a distance of 14.35m, (46’9”).
On the women’s side Caroline Harmon (2:16.95) and Elizabeth Harmon (2:18.20) each earned top-five finishes along with personal-bests in the 800m, finishing second and fourth, respectively. In the 800m invitational, Margaret Schiazza reshuffled the Lafayette record books, finishing in 2:14.94, which marked the third fastest indoor time in school history.
The Leopards earned four top-20 finishes in the mile, with Katie Millar pacing the Maroon and White with a 10-place finish (5:27.00). Morgan Nobles finished 12 with a PR of 5:27.66 while Ainsley Jacobs grabbed 13 place with a PR of 5:28.60. Emily Moore rounded out the Leopards’ platoon with a time of 5:35.59, which was good for 18.
Erin Rome and Mikayla Pacilio and Erin Rome each grabbed top-20 finished in the 3000m, finishing back-to-back in 15 and 16, respectively. Rome rounded the track in 11:16.40, while Pacilio finished in 11:16.54. In the high jump, junior Morgan Maves finished in 8 after reaching a height of 1.55m (5’1”).
The Leopards are back in action next Friday, Feb. 16 when they take part in the Patriot League Championships.
