Bison Open Results
Lewisburg, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team traveled to Bucknell to take part in a two-day meet. The Leopards were one of 30 schools represented in the event; there was no team scoring.
The women were prominent in all aspects of the meet. Freshman Mara Blanchard qualified for finals in the 60 meter dash by topping her preliminary heat with a 8.16; her finals time of 8.25 was good for 13th overall. Fellow freshman Tessa Broholm finished fifth of 15 participants in the 500 meter run as she crossed the finish line a 1:21.21. Junior Grace Watters took part in the 800 meter run, finishing in third out of 42 participants.
In the field, senior Elise Buffinton vaulted herself to a top finish of 3.75 meter, beating out the other 30 competitors. Brittany Powell sprang to a third place finish in the triple jump at 10.87 meters. Rachel Pena posted an ECAC qualifying 18.11 meters in the weight throw, the farthest throw of the competition.
Freshman Andrew Morra placed second in the 1000 meter run with a pace of 2:35.19. Junior Juannell Riley chucked the weight a distance of 15.39 meters, seventh best of the 42 throwers. Sophomore Chris Castello combined all phases of the sport, including a second place throw of 11.82 meters in the shot put portion, in the heptathalon finshing fifth with 4,317 points.
The Leopards are in action again on Friday and Saturday as they take part in the New Balance Invitational at the New York City Armory and the Covert Classic.
