Leopards Drop Dual Meet at Lehigh

Bethlehem, Pa. – Lafayette’s track and field team squared off against rival Lehigh on Saturday afternoon. The Leopards fell by a score of 102-79 on the women’s side, and a score of 111.5-69.5 on the men’s side.
Senior Rachel Pena has a successful day throwing. First she threw the shot put 13.39 meters. She would follow that by setting a Rauch Fieldhouse facility record in the weight throw. Her mark was measured at 18.16 meters, beating the previous record of 18.10 meters. Elise Buffington took first in the pole vault by leaping to a height of 12’ 6”.
On the track, Devin Smith took home a pair of first place finishes. She crossed the line in the 200 meter dash at 26.08. She turned around in the 400 meter dash to break the tape at 58.62.
On the men’s side, Neil Franzese qualified for IC4A and ECAC in the 500 meter dash. The qualifying time was set at 1:16:04, Franzese crossed the line at 1:07.28. In distance, Thomas Day paced the field in the one mile run. Day took first place at 4:21.18.
In the field, Colton Mitchell vaulted his way to a top finish by pole vaulting a height of 4.57 meters. In the weight throw, Juannell Riley and Mac Maguire took the top two spots with distances of 16.40 and 15.34, respectively.
The Leopards are back in action on Thursday and Friday in Lewisburg, Pa. in the Bison Open.
