Swimming and Diving Among Nation's Elite in Classroom
Oct. 28, 2008
EASTON, Pa. - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently announced its academic success rankings for the Division I level, with both the Lafayette men's and women's swimming and diving teams ranking in the top six in the country for overall team grade-point average (GPA). After combining team GPA's from both squads, the Leopards placed third among Division I schools with a 3.44. Individually, the Leopard men were ranked fourth in the country in overall team GPA with a 3.37 mark, while the women finished sixth with a 3.51 average. "I am glad our student-athletes are recognized for their efforts in the classroom," head coach Jim Dailey said. "All of them hold themselves to a high standard academically and athletically. They all have their own ways of handling the pressures and having a team that is as equally committed to an academic goal certainly makes it easier." A total of 125 teams - 81 women's and 44 men's -- bettered the CSCAA's minimum team GPA requirement of 3.00. Dartmouth led the way with a 3.60 overall average for the men, while Yale (3.60) led the way for the women.
