Go Leopards!

Feb. 26, 2014

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette sophomore Greg Grewal was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team for the first time in his career. Grewal's recognition comes on the heels of a stellar performance at Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships. The Patriot League announced its 2013-14 All-League Teams on Wednesday, recognizing 76 honorees.

All-League selections are based on championship performance. Event winners are locked into a spot on the first team, while runners up are guaranteed a spot on second team. The remaining spots are filled based on championship points. A second-team selection can move to first team if they earn enough points.

"This is a great way to end Greg's season. For a sophomore to swim this well and drop the amount of time he has from his senior year in high school to what he did as a sophomore is quite impressive," said Lafayette head coach Jim Dailey. "I am glad the league recognized him. He certainly earned it."

"Greg broke the 200 breaststroke (2:01.77 prelim, 2:00.63 finals) school record by two seconds at championships, finishing fourth overall and almost broke the 100 breaststroke school record missing by only 0.40. Those records were held by Lafayette's 1992 Olympian Andrew Rutherfurd," Dailey noted.

His 55.39 preliminary time in the 100 yard breaststroke qualified him for the B cut in the NCAA Division I Championships. His second-place 54.85 finish in the finals of the event landed him on the All-Patriot League Second Team. Grewal's other events included a 1:52.74 finish in the finals of the 200 yard individual medley with contributions to the school records in the 400 yard medley relay (3:21.84) and 200 yard medley relay (1:32.27).
