Leopards Face Bucknell in Dual Meet

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette swimming and diving team competed in its second competition of the season on Saturday, facing Bucknell in a makeup meet that was rescheduled because of hurricane Sandy. The Bison won both the men's (186-112) and women's (194.5 to 103.5) competitions by similar scores. Freshman Megan Kaveney was an individual event winner for the Leopards, using a time of 24:51 to claim the 50 freestyle. She also placed third in the 100 free in 54:69. Senior Christina Brown swam the best time (2:14.90) of the meet in the 200 individual medley while securing a third-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:01.32. The 200-yard breaststroke proved to be successful event for both the men and the women. Kelly Caggainello earned a second place in 2:33.12 while Dana Purdy took fourth in 2:34.45. On the men's side, Greg Grewal won the 200 breast in a time of 2:12.44. The rookie also finished second in the 100-yard distance (59:14). In the women's 200-yard butterfly, Lafayette took second, third and fourth with Jaclyn Andrews (2:13.6) finishing four seconds off the winning pace. For the men, Christopher Wickwire also finished second in a time of 1:57.90. Wickwire added a third-place result in the 500 free (4:54.16). Sophomore Evan Newbold garnered four points with his second spot in the 100 backstroke, clocking a time of 54:10. On the diving side of things, Todd Leone won the three-meter competition with a score of 254.25 while placing second in the one-meter event with 246.06.
